This is the unofficial blog of the Morris Lions Under 19s Rugby Team. The official Morris Lions site can be found out at http://www.morrisrugby.org.
Based in Northern New Jersey, Morris Lions is a rugby club that's open to all, Men, women, boys, girls, irrespective of experience. There are programs and teams from flag rugby for first graders to the Masters who are 35 and over (and a long way over).
The Under 19s program is for High Schoolers of any experience from all over Morris County and beyond. If you want to try something different from football, soccer, baseball and soccer, trust us! It's the best sport in the world. If you want to try out, email us.
Very proud of our boys! the Morris Lions played 4 tough and close matches against Montclair, Doylestown PA, South Jersey including facing Morris 2 aka Delbarton in the final.
The final was especially hard fought. Delbarton scored first and converted. Morris ten came back with a try by Sebastian and a penalty by Sebastian to be up 8-7 at the half. The second half was even tougher. Garrett then broke through for a well-earned try that Sebastian converted. Final score Morris Lions 15- Delbarton 7.
The Morris Lions U19s won all three of their matches, beating Vance 24-14, Atlanta 34-5 and Unionville 55-17. As a result the boys were announced as tournament winners.
To get you in the mood for this weekend's tournament, check out this old post with some of the players' best memories here:
"Hearing the other team moan every time the ref called for a scrum. Go Dozer" - Big Red
I think the best game moment, was either jake feury's dump, or Ludwig's
excellent try in the first game. Ludwig hit that hole at full speed,
and didn't stop. He is starting to make tuqiri look bad lol." Joe Ross
"Tie between Feury's tackle and Grego's try in that third game. Both were incredible." Matt Turinas
"Listening to the A-side cheering on the B-side on Sunday, then
listening to the B-side "trying" to cheer on the A-side!" Coach John

As in past years, we plan on entering
into the Charlotte tournament next March, which is expected to be the 13th thru15 th. Last year we had enough players to enter 2 sides, with 8 adults
traveling with the team. We will accept as many players as are able to go
and will enter the appropriate number of teams. Due to the distance, we have to
fly. This year, we will depart Newark Airport in the early afternoon,
meaning the players will have to be let out of class early on the Friday,
returning late Sunday afternoon/early evening. We are looking at a mid
afternoon departure. If players are unable to leave at the scheduled
departure time, you can make arrangements for your sons to leave later, but
will be at your cost. All the players, regardless of when they arrive will
stay in the same hotel. Arrangements can be made for transport from the
airport to the hotel for the later arrivals. To hold your spot in
Charlotte, we are asking for a $25 deposit. You can contact Adam
Turinas at his email, adamturinas@gmail.com]to make
arrangements for payment. Parents are also able to attend. We
are estimating that the cost for the Charlotte trip, air, hotel and ground
transport, not including meals, will be between $350 and $400 per player.
For any adults traveling, you can have your choice of a single room or doubling
up if requested, which will increase the costs a bit more. More details to
follow, including thoughts on fundraising to help defray some of the travel
costs. Here are some links for pictures and articles about the trip last
year:
